Born in 1959, Hal Gage grew up in Anchorage, Alaska. His love for art started early and continued into college where he studied music and painting. During his second year his painting mentor (the late Marc Bourassa) introduced Gage to photography. Shortly after he immersed himself into its study. |
In 1993 he opened The Gallery of Contemporary Fine Art Photography in Alaska giving a number of photographic artists their first solo exhibitions. In the late 90s he served on arts advisory commissions and boards for the city of Anchorage. In 2004 Gage was awarded the first photographic artist fellowship given to an Alaskan artist from the Rasmuson Foundation. |

After leaving the University of Alaska, Anchorage, Gage worked as a rock and roll musician traveling around California and Alaska playing bars and events. By the 80s, not satisfied with the night life of a musician he refocused on his roots in the visual arts. |
Since the early 90s Gage has shown nationally and internationally. Gage’s work spans several thematic bodies of work. His Alaska landscape works are documents of Zen balance speaking of calm balance, quiet solitude and life’s inner power of renewal. |

Gage’s work is represented by the Weston Gallery in Carmel, California, the Cleary Gallery in Houston, Texas and the Benham Gallery in Seattle, Washington. His work may also be found at the Fotografie Forum International in Frankfurt, Germany. He has exhibited in Eastern and Western Russia, England and many venues throughout the United States. |
