Bird Point was the subject of Gage's first solo landscape exhibition that traveled Alaska in the late 80s, Bird Point: a decade of photography. Join Hal Gage for a two day workshop. Bird Point is 30 miles south of Anchorage. Participants will explore the tidal flats, sea ice formations and glacial carved rocks of this very unique area. Topics covered: composition, conceptualizing an image, exposure, equipment usage, and practical considerations of working on the tidal flats. All levels are welcome working in digital or film. The Altered Landscape
|
The Altered Landscapes This workshop explores photography of Human-kind's imprint on the landscape and making photographs of the intentionally altered landscape. These are subjects that I have thought about for many years. Humanity is as much a part of nature as any other component in the ecosystem. But, the position that humans hold in nature is, for the first time in the history, unique in that Man holds sway over the planetary ecosystem like never before. This workshop explores both the look of unintended consequences of unbridled development, and the intimate interaction of working with nature to make a conscious design that reflects your individual view of the natural world. Workshop consists of the first evening reviewing photographs by noted photographers who have made a significant contribution to this genre of photography and discussion. The next day will be spent in the field photographing manmade landscapes and creating an altered landscape and photographing it. The next day will be spent reviewing participants images; talking about technical issues, composition, and aesthetic considerations. For those that wish it, I will do a portfolio review of participants work. This workshop is appropriate for all skill levels, and is of interest to nature and wildlife photographers and artists working with natural materials. Participants are required to have a digital camera (any digital camera), warm clothes and an enthusiasm for the outdoors. This is a 2 1/2 day workshop (Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday 9-5).
