Bird Point
|
Bird Point Hal Gage leads a two day winter landscape photography workshop in the heart of Turnagain Arm, Alaska. Known world wide for it's scenic beauty, one of the most unique locations on the Turnagain Arm is a little coastal estuary known as Bird Point. Hal Gage has been photographing there for nearly three decades. Bird Point was the subject of Gage's first solo landscape exhibition that traveled Alaska in the late 80s, Bird Point: a decade of photography. Join Hal Gage for a two day workshop. Day one is spent in the field at Bird Point, 30 miles south of Anchorage. Participants will explore the tidal flats, sea ice formations and glacial carved rocks of this very unique area. Topics covered: composition, conceptualizing an image, exposure, equipment usage, and practical considerations of working on the tidal flats. Day two is spent in the classroom processing the RAW format files. Class covers processing for maximum quality and dynamic range, special effects within Adobe Camera RAW converter,non distructive masking and adjustments of Smart Objects in Photoshop CS4. Students must have laptop computer with Adobe Photoshop C43 installed. Glacier Photography

6th Annual Glacier Photography Adventure Hal Gage, leads a two and one half day workshop on the Matanuska Glacier (100 miles north of Anchorage) concentrating on photographing the natural wonders of glaciers. Gage has extensive background in B&W and color photography in both film and digital. This class is for all levels and abilities. Moderate hiking will be involved, but no climbing or ropes. The glacier is very safe. There are no crevasses or holes to fall into! Mr. Gage has photographed at the Matanuska for nearly a decade. His solo exhibition at the Anchorage Museum in 2004 included many images from the Matanuska Glacier. This exhibition, Ice: a personal meditation later traveled Alaska to venues around the state. Workshop covers composition, exposure and equipment techniques for photographing on glaciers and tips on the best places to photograph on the Matanuska Glacier. For those working with digital cameras critiques and discussion will follow the first day’s session at the lodge. Discussion will cover composition, digital photography tips and Adobe Photoshop techniques with RAW files. Workshop fee includes all meals, access fee into the Glacier Park, personal instruction and instruction on safely negotiating on a glacier. Bird Point was the subject of Gage's first solo landscape exhibition that traveled Alaska in the late 80s, Bird Point: a decade of photography. Join Hal Gage for a two day workshop in the field and in the classroom. Bird Point is 30 miles south of Anchorage. Classroom setting covers: digital RAW workflow and basic enhancements in Photoshop. All levels are welcome working in digital or film. Because this is a tidal dependent workshop (low tide is at about 5pm), workshop runs from 2pm to 6pm on Saturday and the classroom session is from 11am to 3pm on Sunday. Dress warm in layers with sturdy hiking boots. Bring your camera with wide angle and telephoto lenses, a tripod, and 100 to 400 ISO film or enough digital media for 100 frames. Close-up and Nature Photography

Close-up and Nature Photography Retreat Across the Bay Tent and Breakfast will host the eighth annual close up and nature photography workshop at their lodge on Kasitsna Bay in the heart of Kachemak Bay. Hal Gage will demonstrate how to improve your skills by discussing the technical aspects of camera (film and digital), lenses, flash, exposure and lighting, as well as the aesthetic applications of photography. In the evenings he will discuss digital RAW workflow and Photoshop techniques. The workshop runs from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. Bring a camera with wide angle and telephoto lenses, and any close-up or macro lenses or accessories you might have. Pack your sturdy hiking shoes, waterproof knee-high wading boots, bug dope, rain gear (just in case), sleeping bag and toiletries. For those working with digital we will have a slideshow of participant's work on Saturday evening. The fee includes instruction; water taxi transportation from Homer; transportation to Red Mountain, Jackolof Bay, and Seldovia; gourmet meals at the ATB lodge; and rustic accommodations in large platform wall tents.
