Ice Abstractions. Pattern recognition is an important part of our visual evolution. Face recognition is an integral part of our early development as an infant. I am no John Nash (in either his brilliance or obsession), but I do have an strong inclination towards patterns. I was introduced to the lyrical quality of ice formations by some of Brett Weston's work. These ice patterns brings me back to my earliest days as an artist. Line, shape and the suggestion of volume are in a line with my penchant toward abstraction in my drawing and painting. These studies are allusions to more than they are. In some you may see a face and in others a portal to other worlds. Each has enough elements for the viewer to create their own story.
